Despite continuously running our renowned Business Banking Survey over the last seven years involving telephone interviews with some 15,000 British businesses each year, and as well as conducting a multitude of other financial research studies \u2013 some of which have been initiated by ourselves and are therefore available to be shared \u2013 we\u2019ve never previously published a report of the SME finance and banking market.<\/p>\n

Given the market data at our disposal and our in-depth knowledge of the way SMEs operate financially, we decided it was time to do something about it.<\/p>\n

The aim of this report is to give readers a comprehensive overview of the SME market in GB \u2013 the number of businesses, how that breaks down by size and business sector, the number of new start-ups, and so on.<\/p>\n

The report goes on to look at the penetration of individual financial products and services among SMEs, the way SMEs finance themselves (including their experiences of applying for finance and their decision-making processes regarding the choice of funder), the extent of international trading, the banking channels they use, the channel they use most, the number of banks they use, the extent of bank switching and the reasons behind it, what they regard as their main business risks and, finally, how confident they feel about the state of the economy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
